In 1995 I was working for a tech startup that owned the number you mistakenly called in the episode. . They actually owned 312-867-5* and all 1000 numbers in that range. When I started I was employee 12 and they asked if I had a favorite number. I said 309, knowing full well what their exchange was. They asked if I could select a lower number since they were trying to assign in order. About a year later after significant growth I asked again but it turns out they finally wised up and realized the number they owned. They even set up a voice mailbox with a woman from the company using her best vixen voice asking for messages. Every month or so they would play the best ones at a company meeting. Many times there were radio stations DJs asking for call backs. Said company is long gone and apparently no one else has the number.

Back in 1982, when the song came out, Corpus Christi, TX was still 512; in the mid 1990s 512 split, and the state capitol Austin retained 512 while South Texas became 361. In 1982, before Caller ID, my friends and I called the number all the time asking for Jenny, and either an older man or woman would answer, always confused and asking who this Jenny was. We eventually stopped calling, feeling guilty. The 867 exchange had to have been assigned to Corpus Christi, or we would have had to dial it long distance, and I was not bold enough for that when I was 8.

As of 6/21/2008 if you dial 832-867-5309, you hear a recording of the song! Be careful though, a man picked up after the chorus and said, "Hello?" He quickly hung up after not hearing anything. He must have set the song as what you hear instead of a standard ringing tone.
